Martin Luther King Jr. Day, observed on the third Monday of January each year, is a significant and revered holiday in the United States. It commemorates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a prominent civil rights leader, and his tireless efforts in advocating for racial equality and social justice. The holiday serves as a reminder of Dr. King's pivotal role in the American civil rights movement, marked by his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, which passionately called for an end to racial segregation and discrimination. Martin Luther King Jr. Day not only honors his visionary leadership but also encourages reflection on the ongoing struggle for equality, diversity, and human rights. It's a day of remembrance, education, and community service, where people across the nation come together to celebrate the progress made, acknowledge the challenges that remain, and recommit to creating a more inclusive and just society.
Washington's Birthday, also known as Presidents' Day, is an annual observance in the United States that honors the first President of the country, George Washington. Celebrated on the third Monday of February, it commemorates Washington's legacy as a founding father and his pivotal role in shaping the nation. Beyond being a tribute to Washington, the holiday has come to symbolize the broader recognition of all U.S. presidents and their contributions to the country. It serves as a time to reflect on the principles of leadership, democracy, and the enduring values that have guided America's growth and development.
Memorial Day is a solemn and significant occasion in the United States, observed on the last Monday of May. It is a day of remembrance and tribute to the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, this holiday emerged after the Civil War to honor those who had died in the conflict. Over time, it has grown to encompass the memory of all fallen soldiers from various wars and conflicts. On Memorial Day, people gather to participate in ceremonies, lay wreaths, and visit cemeteries to pay their respects to the fallen heroes. It's a poignant reminder of the costs of freedom and a time to express gratitude for the sacrifices made to ensure the nation's security and liberty.
Independence Day, celebrated on July 4th, holds a special place in the heart of the United States. It commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, when the thirteen American colonies declared their separation from British rule, marking the birth of the nation. This holiday is characterized by patriotic festivities, including parades, fireworks, barbecues, and community gatherings. Beyond the festivities, Independence Day is a time to reflect on the principles of liberty, democracy, and the enduring values that form the foundation of the United States. It's a reminder of the sacrifices made by the country's founders and a celebration of the freedoms and opportunities that define the American spirit.
Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, is an important and historic commemoration in the United States. Also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, it marks the day in 1865 when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, effectively ending slavery in the Confederate states. Juneteenth serves as a joyful celebration of African American culture, resilience, and the long-fought struggle for freedom. It's a time for reflection on the nation's history, the progress made, and the ongoing pursuit of equality and justice for all. Over the years, Juneteenth has gained increased recognition, with efforts to make it a federally recognized holiday highlighting its significance in acknowledging the complex journey toward racial equality in the United States.

Can't come Thursday mornings? Please email/message me with your time and locations for any independent weeding you do in parks, riparian areas or Town open or public spaces.
Our mission since starting in 2016 is to support the beauty, health and sustainability of Lyons ecosystems by manually removing toxic and invasive weeds (like knapweed, thistles, mullein, dalmation toadflax, curly dock, myrtle spurge, etc.), reducing the need for chemical treatments, and encouraging native plant growth.
Keeping our focus on the health and well-being of Lyons residents (people and wilder ones) as well. Building community.
Another big benefit is the joy and satisfaction of working together to produce visible results. We learn a lot about plant IDs, best tools and techniques from each other.

The Last Revel is a three-piece folk group from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Utilizing their multi-instrumental abilities, members Lee Henke, Ryan Acker, and Vincenzio Donatelle, bring a full spectrum of modern Americana to life with lush arrangements of three-part vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar, upright bass, fiddle, and 5-string banjo to consistently support impassioned performances of their honest and heartfelt songwriting. Drawing influence from their salt of the earth Midwest ethos the band’s songs so naturally blend the genres of Folk, Old Time String-Band and Indie Rock to create a sound that echoes the current heartbeat of America.
Their latest release, Dovetail, highlights each member's strength as songwriters and collaborators, and further solidifies their musical foundation after a hiatus beginning in 2019. Self-produced and released under the bands own label, Sheep Sheep Records, Dovetail is the band's fifth studio album.

Warren Miller’s ALL TIME: Seventy-four years of filmmaking
MULTIPLE DATES!!! - TICKETS REQUIRED!!
Narrated by Jonny Moseley, ALL TIME will feature deep dives into elements that Warren himself first identified as the stuff of which snowy dreams are made.
From the birth of ski towns like Sun Valley and Aspen; to the icons and innovators—like the original hotdoggers—the film will spin through the years like snow ghosts, bringing humor and inspiration from today including Maine’s finest athlete, Donny Pelletier, to the park scene at Woodward Park City and the next gen of skiers and riders.
Less a documentary than a love letter, it’s a way to honor how, where, and with whom we’ve made ski and snowboard movies since Warren first picked up a camera in 1949.
